Basic White Sauce (Bechamel Sauce)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1 rounded tablespoon EMH General Purpose Flour

  • ½ cup milk*

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Melt butter over medium heat and add flour. Whisk until combined and no lumps remain. Slowly add milk, whisking continuously.

*Add more milk for a thinner sauce, less milk for a thicker sauce.

Note: This is a very basic sauce and can be doubled or tripled to use in many dishes:

  • Creamed vegetables

  • Creamed eggs on toast

  • Alfredo sauce: Add ¼ to ½ cup shredded cheese after milk to make a cheesy sauce, mac and cheese, or soups like cheesy potato soup

  • Add 1 pound cooked sausage to top biscuits
