Basic White Sauce (Bechamel Sauce)
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon butter
1 rounded tablespoon EMH General Purpose Flour
½ cup milk*
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Melt butter over medium heat and add flour. Whisk until combined and no lumps remain. Slowly add milk, whisking continuously.
*Add more milk for a thinner sauce, less milk for a thicker sauce.
Note: This is a very basic sauce and can be doubled or tripled to use in many dishes:
Creamed vegetables
Creamed eggs on toast
Alfredo sauce: Add ¼ to ½ cup shredded cheese after milk to make a cheesy sauce, mac and cheese, or soups like cheesy potato soup
Add 1 pound cooked sausage to top biscuits
