Fresh Salsa

There’s an old salsa commercial where a group of cowboys are sitting around the campfire enjoying dinner after a hard day’s work. When the salsa runs low, they ask the cook for more. But there isn’t any. They’ve devoured the usual salsa, so the cook hands them another bottle of salsa. And they’re outraged when they realize the stuff wasn’t made fresh. You may remember the line: “This stuff is made in New York City! Get a rope!”

Once you’ve tasted salsa made from fresh ingredients, your taste buds know the difference. If you’re hungry for chips and salsa, want to add a little heat and flavor to tacos or enchiladas, or make your own seven-layer-dip, skip the stuff made in New York City.

Try This Easy-to-Make Salsa Recipe

You can make your own salsa from fresh ingredients. At Early Morning Harvest, we have just about everything you need to make some mouth-watering salsa (mild, medium, or hot). Here’s a basic recipe from the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

Early Morning Harvest fresh salsa

Ingredients:

  • 2 tomatoes, chopped

  • 1/2 onion, chopped

  • 3 jalapeno peppers, finely chopped (seeded if desired)

  • 1/4 C cilantro, chopped

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 lime, juiced

Directions:
In a medium bowl, mix all ingredients. Serve or store salsa in refrigerator for up to three days in a covered plastic or glass container. Makes 4 servings.

Note: Organically-grown tomatoes and jalapeno peppers are available at Early Morning Harvest. You can also make easy adjustments to the flavor and heat-level of your salsa with Early Morning Harvest herbs and a variety of peppers.
