Cornbread Recipe for Chilly Days

Cooler temperatures, falling leaves… the holiday season is right around the corner! Which could mean that you have lots of cooking and baking in your future, so make sure you buy your ingredients locally! With cooler temperatures, isn’t one of the best feel-good foods a hot bowl of soup? And nothing goes better with that bowl of soup than a slice of cornbread. Here’s our Grandma Mamie’s Corn Bread recipe:

Grandma Mamie’s Corn Bread
In a large bowl mix

  • ¾ cup shorteningOrganic recipe for corn bread
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 ½ cups (Early Morning Harvest milled) flour
  • 3 cups (Early Morning Harvest milled) cornmeal
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups butter milk

Preheat a 9X13 cake pan. Pour and spread mixture in the 9X 13 cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees until done (about 40 minutes).
